Trend to try: Brigitte Bardot holiday hair
Brigitte Bardot’s personal style has undoubtedly had enduring impact on the fashion world.
During the ’50s and ‘60s, the style icon, who is now aged 81, favoured a dark cat eye and liked to wear her hair either in a bouffant with black headband or down in messy waves. Decades later, women around the world still emulate her signature look, with the likes of Kate Moss, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and model Natasha Poly all taking hairstyle cues from the French star at recent red carpet appearances.
And now that the warmer months are here, there’s no better time to rock volume and flirty waves for yourself.
First of all, part your hair into small sections all around your head. With a medium-sized curling iron, take each section in a backwards turning motion, ensuring the you’ve included the ends.
Once the curls have cooled, brush out your hair with a soft bristled brush. This is an important step as it will add volume and make your curls into pretty waves.
Now, to really embrace the Brigitte style; pull your hair in a half-up half-down ponytail style, securing with an elastic band. For volume, gently tease both underneath and on top of the ponytail to give the required lift at the top of the head. Now place some fine bobby pins vertically underneath your ponytail so that your hair stays in place all day long, before taking a comb and teasing a little more at the root of the hair. Finish with a spritz of long-hold hairspray, such as Redken Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray, which gives hair a healthy shine and firm no-fuss finish.
If you’re really feeling the bombshell vibe, tie a ribbon in a bow around your ponytail, or a thin headband around the crown of your head. And voila! French Riviera chic in seconds.
