Top new beauty trends to rule the red carpet

From 1970s vibes to bold lipsticks colours, there was plenty of beauty inspiration to be had on the red carpet of the American Music Awards (AMAs).

If you’re doubtful you can achieve these looks, think again – as they’re fairly straightforward. Read on for a breakdown of the biggest make-up trends to try now.

‘70s bombshell

Gigi Hadid rocked the red carpet of the AMAs in a white lace Roberto Cavalli gown, which she matched with a fresh beauty look. Make-up artist Erin Parsons opted to give the model a 1970s-inspired glamour look, creating her soft, bronzed glow by applying Maybelline New York Master Contour Duo Stick in #6 and Maybelline New York Facestudio Master Contour Face Contour Kit in Light to Medium to contour her face. She then put on a wash of light shimmery pink shadow and defined the crease with a deep nude colour. To complete Gigi’s look, she opted for a swipe of Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in All Fired Up, a pink coral, that really popped against her white ensemble.

Glossy eyelids

For the AMAs, Lady Gaga embraced the glossy eyeshadow trend which was seen on models at the recent Paris Fashion Week. Make-up artist Sarah Tanno used Marc Jacobs Beauty Collector's Edition Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Tabboo! over the singer’s lids, washing them with smoky grey hue with silver glitter. While Ariana Grande may have stuck with her signature ponytail for the night, she wasn’t afraid to play with her eyeshadow. The starlet chose a rose gold hue like Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow, which was dusted across the lids and topped off with a slick of black liquid eyeliner and a winged flick at the corner of the eyes.

Purple lipstick

Another big trend to pop up at the AMAs was unusual yet striking lipstick colours. Taraji P. Henson made a memorable red carpet beauty statement when she sported The Lip Bar’s Crown Me lipstick, a vibrant purple hue which looked especially stunning in contrast to her white shirt dress.

And Hailee Steinfeld also tried out the bold colour trend by opting for a swipe of dark fuschia lipstick, which perfectly complemented the shimmery silver liner on her waterline, making her eyes look extra bright.
