This season's lip hits

Lip cosmetics never go out of fashion and changing your lip routine is one of the easiest ways to update your look. As well as new trends, it's also worth keeping an eye out for new products which will instantly freshen up your make-up bag. We've rounded up our current lip lusts to give you a head start.

Ombre lips

Ombre lips have been quietly making a statement for some time now, meaning it's a trend worth learning. In basic terms ombre it's the graduation of colour, and on the lips it works well with both bold and more subtle shades. It's really easy to achieve; start off lighter in the centre of your lips, before pulling out into a darker colour. Be sure to line your lips first, to create definition as well as a great base to hold lipstick in place. Pull the pencil in slightly more towards the centre of your mouth, before blending a darker shade on top (leaving the centre of mouth). In the gap that's left, use a lighter shade of the same hue and apply with a lip brush to get maximum precision.

Berry stained lips

Red lips are huge this season, with Bourjois make-up artist Attracta Courtney explaining which shades to go for.

"Lips for summer is definitely red. Those reds, fuchsias and those really lovely poppy colours. Anything with vibrancy," she told Cover Media.

Runways were awash with red lips, seen at Burberry Prorsum, Zac Posen and Missoni. For the Carolina Herrera and Dolce & Gabbana S/S15 shows, the shade was more berry-like. D&G blurred the edges slightly, making lips look sexily stained.

Don't worry about going for too much eye make-up if you're rocking a bold lip.

New products

If lipstick has become boring and you're so over lipgloss, now's the time to try Freedom's Lip Butter. Like its namesake, it glides on lips leaving a lightweight wash of colour. This honestly feels like it melts on to lips and comes in berry reds through to more neutral tones.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics have also come up with a quirky new way to wear lip colour. Its Lip Tar, a combination of lipstick and lipgloss, comes with its own mini lip brush to paint your pout to perfection. It's stuffed full of pigment, so a little goes a long way.
