Sun series: Make-up tips
When the sun's shining not many of us want to slather on heavy foundations, or cake our face in powder. That's not to say make-up is shunned, but much like our summer wardrobe, we have to switch it up a bit.
Perricone MD's Face Finishing Moisturizer Tint SPF30 will not only leave skin with a luminous glow, but it's also packed full of protecting nutrients. With the use of pigment capsules, the fast absorbing and hydrating cream adjusts to individual skin tone.
Just in time for the sunnier days Bourjois have jazzed up its BB Bronzing Cream 8-in-1 with a slick new Parisian themed tube. As well as giving the face a golden glow, it provides 24 hour hydration and has an inbuilt SPF15. Generally you should be wearing an additional, higher, SPF under your make-up though so it's good to invest in a lightweight sun protector to whack on in the mornings.
An SPF should be part of your daily routine, even in the winter months. It's not just sunning yourself by a pool or being a sunbed devotee that can cause skin cancer. In fact basal cell carcinoma, which Hugh Jackman has been treated for three times, is not only the most common type of skin cancer, but the most common cancer in humans.
Kiehls' do a great Ultra Light Daily Defense SPF50, which wears well under make-up as it's so lightweight and absorbs almost instantly. SkinCeuticals Sheer Mineral UV Defense SPF50 is another good choice.
SkinCeuticals also do a great antioxidant serum, C E Ferulic, which should be used in conjunction with SPF. 90% of premature ageing is caused by environmental damage. Sun care only protects from about 55 per cent of free radicals created by UV rays, which then cause lines, wrinkles and brown spots. Feeding your skin with antioxidants is essential for a youthful and healthy complexion.
Those who are prone to breakouts will fare well with a lighter SPF formula, as it's less pore-clogging. Piz Buin's Ultra Light Sun Spray is one of the best out there, as it's also enriched with a strong anti-oxidant. Soltan's Dry Touch also includes antioxidants and is non pore blocking.
Once you have your SPF in place, why not embrace the bare make-up trend? Forgo base and just cover any blemishes or shadows with concealer. A sweep of bronzer will give you a healthy glow, without making you look overly made up. Make-Up Forever have recently launched in the UK and its Pro Bronze Fusion is a real winner.
As well as lighter face make-up, don't forget to inject a bit more colour into your summer cosmetics. Turquoise and soft golds look great on summer skin, as do coloured lips glosses and crayons which give a lighter finish than lipsticks.
