Stop summertime giving you wrinkles

Little do you know that there are some habits you have in the summer which may cause wrinkles. And we're not talking about sunbathing for hours - we're referring to moves you may not even realise play a part on your appearance.

One of these is air conditioning. While you may be as cool as a cucumber while sitting at your work desk thanks to the cold stream of air keeping you comfortable, you're losing precious moisture from your skin. As the AC lowers the temperature, it removes moisture from the air, which can dehydrate your pores and give them a sullen look. If you want your skin cells to be plump and nourished, be careful, as the increase of AC usage during the summer months could well lead to wrinkles.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day and try to take a break from the cold office. It's also good to keep something like a hydrating mist nearby if your complexion ever feels like it needs a boost.

While water is recommended, a certain way of drinking it can actually have an impact on your looks. If you're a regular bottle guzzler then be wary of what it can do, as dermatologist Annie Chiu in Hermosa Beach, California recently spoke of her concerns to Allure magazine - a pouting motion of drinking through a straw, or sucking from a sport-top bottle, triggers mouth muscles to move, which can leave fine lines over time. If that isn't a reason to drink from a cup more often then we don't know what is!

Keep your shades close too as squinting at the sun can result in the dreaded crow's feet. Our natural reaction to squint in bright light builds up deep lines in the corners of our eyes, and the more it happens, the more prominent they'll become. Sunglasses are recommended and, if you want extra protection, opt for some with built in UV protection too.

While we hope it's an obvious one, the most important way you can prevent wrinkles - and serious sunburn which can lead to skin cancer - is sunscreen. Make sure you use high SPFs, 30 or above, and take regular breaks from the sunlight to prevent sunstroke or any other heat-related problems.
