SS/15's minimal beauty

When Spring/Summer rolls around it's as safe a bet that cosmetics companies will start churning out tinted moisturisers and new BB creams as it is that Kim Kardashian will rock another crop top. But the freshest cosmetics looks aren't all about bare skin this season, so we asked some experts about the most modern ways to look summery.

"As everyone reaches for fresh new shades to shed off the winter blues, pastels once again take centre stage. Spring and summer is always about fresh and dewy looking skin. The 'bare' face was seen at Victoria Beckham as well as Marc Jacobs, beautiful skin and barely there make-up; while Fendi and Dior added a splash and swipe of colour popping on the eyes with turquoise and orange eyeliner flicks to add a new accent to the face," Clair Rose, Head of Cosmetics at Dr.LeWinn’s told Cover Media.

"Tom Ford and Chanel bucked the spring summer trend and instead went for smudgy 'slept in' smoky eyes as a contrast to the new season light and floaty textures in clothes."

While fresh skin will always be a big look for Spring/Summer, celebrity make-up artist Julia Carta has a different take on barely there. Keeping your skin luminous with minimal make-up is a start, but she also advises toning things down when it comes to your eyes too.

"Bold boyish brows (aka Cara Delevingne and Keira Knightley) are still bang on trend and really frame a minimal make-up face. Finish with a nude lip or clear gloss," she added. "It's also not about triple fake lashes it's about going back to natural with minimal mascara or barely there fake lashes and sculpting and highlighting your cheek bones with a natural emphasis. Alexa Chung rocks the minimal make-up look well with a bold liquid eyeliner, with a modern day 60s twist, peachy skin and pale lip."

All our experts agree on one thing; for Spring/Summer 15 highlighter is king. That means taking a stick or shimmer pen, whichever you fancy, and rubbing on to cheekbones and on your cupid's bow for some real glimmer.
