Spring 16 trends to try now!
Why wait until spring to channel next year’s trends when so many of them will work right now?
New York Fashion Week sent pulses racing last month (Sept15) with an array of exciting new trends to try for Spring/Summer 16. While singling out some of our favourite hair and make-up it became clear that many of them would work perfectly in the lead-up to Christmas and even Halloween!
If the onset of wintry months is already playing havoc with your hair, then here’s some good news for you. The adverse elements may just be whipping your locks into a totally on-trend look because the New York catwalk was dominated by some seriously windswept strands.
Models sashayed around sporting textured waves, suggesting a less coiffed, more relaxed feel. To perfect the look, spend a few hours whizzing in a convertible with the top down – or just step outside and let the seasonal breeze do all the work for you. This is an easy trend to manage because it doesn’t need to be held in place and won’t involve any intricate preparations. Try a half-up hairdo with a few strands straying across your forehead as seen at Altuzarra and the Michael Kors Collection.
The scruffy theme continued with Jason Wu, Rag & Bone and Tory Burch, who all embraced the idea of dishevelled chignons. To nail this look pack away your hairbrush and bobby pins and just stick to a good old fashioned hair band.
Blue eye make-up was another prominent beauty theme. Banish those winter blues with a coat of aqua mascara, or a thick lashing of cobalt liner above your eyes.
If you’re among the keen beans already planning your perfect party make-up look for the festive season, then look no further. Metallics are back and bigger and brighter than ever, so prepare to light up the room. There is something for everyone with this trend, so start small with a few sparkling jewels at the inner corners of the eyes a la Givenchy, or go all out and cover your eyelids in bold shimmering shades.
If you can’t wait until December to shine then make like the models at Creatures of the Wind and don some glittery cat eyes for Halloween. Channel your inner feline with heavy smudgy slicks on your upper lash line, then let loose with gold or silver glitter all over the lid. Meow!
Don’t worry if the thought of spending hours applying products is your worst nightmare (or you’re feeling too delicate after your Christmas party to face yourself in the mirror). Minimal make-up was a strong beauty concept for Alexander Wang, who sent models out wearing just a dab of moisturiser. Narciso Rodriguez opted for a dewy (some would say slightly sweaty) look, complete with glowing cheeks and subtle eye make-up.
