Skincare hero: Baobab oil
It may not roll off the tongue but Baobab oil is fast becoming one of the beauty world’s hero oils. The oil comes from the Baobab tree which blooms once a year is found in east and southern Africa. Known as the "Tree of Life" it grows close to 100 feet. And after it’s extracted from the fruit seed, benefits of the pale yellow oil are abundant.
Baobab oil is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and the superfruit contains high levels of anti-oxidants and vitamin C. It also contains essential fatty acid and sterols that benefit hair and skin, rejuvenating your complexion and combating early signs of ageing.
Don’t let the oil tag scare you, Baobab absorbs quickly and doesn’t clog pores.
The oil can also be very healing for those with skin conditions and is often used to treat eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
There are several ways to enjoy the benefits of the Baobab oil:
Baobab oil is non-toxic and is safe to use on children and pregnant women. When using the oil to combat dry skin problems, use it every day for a few weeks, until the skin feels better. However, very light skinned people should avoid rubbing baobab oil over eyelids. Fushi Baobab Seed Oil Virgin is a cold pressed oil which can be used on the face and body as a moisturiser. Add a few drops to your bath, or rub it directly into damp skin after a shower. It can also be added to body lotion.
For adding extra moisture to your hair try Phytospecific Baobab Oil Bottle, a multi-purpose oil created to hydrate and protect hair and skin. Apply as a treatment to wet or dry scalp and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse and shampoo hair as usual. Alternatively, smooth a small amount through dry ends. The oil is also great for women with natural afro hair because it also contains fatty acids that are essential to having strong, shiny locks that grow.
