Skin revival for the New Year
After the endless Christmas and New Year's partying, it's time to give your skin some TLC! Late nights and lots of booze and food can wreak havoc on your complexion, but we have some easy ways to brighten things up.
Change your diet
We're not saying cut out all treats but it's safe you say your body could do with some hydrating after all the indulging. Alcohol, caffeine and sugar all dry out skin, so gulp lots more water and tuck into more fruit and vegetables to stabilise your body's pH levels, leading to glowing skin. Top foods include apples, packed full of vitamin C to keep skin supple and prevent ageing, beetroot for its antioxidants to keep wrinkles at bay and carrots for vitamin A to fight off fine lines.
To get rid of any problems on the skin's surface, get yourself a decent exfoliator to scrub away dirt and toxins. The smoother the skin, the more light it will reflect giving you a flawless complexion! Opt for a gentle product to use on a daily basis, which will clean but not harm cells, and use in the evenings to remove all the dirt from the day. To get a really good finish, why not try an electronic cleanser? You can move the brush around with small circular motions and see the difference it makes. Laura Mercier Face Polish, Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub and Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser are all great choices.
To get rid of even more rubbish, use a glycolic acid peel to abolish the dull top layer of your skin. Unlike a gentle exfoliator you should only use a peel once a week, as any more will do more damage than good. If you're wary of peels, give a lactic acid one a whirl as it doesn't penetrate as deeply as others.
Although scrubs and peels are great in the moment, they can leave your face dry. To nourish and freshen up your skin go for a lightening moisturiser, like NARS Optimal Brightening Concentrate or L'Occitane Immortelle Brightening Moisture Cream. As you rub in, massage your face to stimulate the cells and boost circulation, enhancing your natural lightness.
