Shimmer me timbers!
The days of coating yourself in glitter for one of your friend's parties as a kid may be long gone, but that doesn't mean you should shun shimmery products as a woman. While we wouldn't recommend covering yourself head to toe in glitter, we're fully in favour of a glistening finish to the face.
So how do you go about it in a ladylike way rather than looking like a raver? You need a smooth base first so the glitter doesn't go patchy or uneven. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!
When you've finished washing your face, apply some moisturiser and allow it to fully sink in. Your skin needs to be completely dry before you put glitter on, therefore we suggest you choose your foundation carefully to ensure there is no sticky mess. A dewy finish would work well here, as with a matte product the glitter might look too obvious (which goes against the point).
When it comes to your cheeks we suggest using glitter as a highlighter rather than applying sporadically. MAC's glitter is especially designed to be worn on the skin, as is Barry M Glitter Rush Body Glitter, but instead of putting it straight on, try mixing a little in with a cream/gel highlighter.
Glitter works great on eyes too and allows you to go bolder if the mood takes. Eyeliner is a safe bet as you can apply it as thin or thick as you fancy, like Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner. With seven shades on offer you can choose from light cream colours, to a head-turning vibrant purple.
Likewise eyeshadow options are endless - looking for something easy? Look no further than Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadow, which you can sweep on in a simple swoop of the brush. But for a bigger impact loose glitter is the best call, and the easiest way to secure it is by using a cream shadow like Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Eyeshadow as a base. Either go for a neutral option or one in the shade of the glitter to give more depth.
