Protect your skin this winter with SPF

Protect your skin this winter with SPF

Applying sun cream in the summer is as natural as brushing your teeth. But did you know it’s just as important to use a SPF in the winter as well? A new study in the Dermatologic Surgery revealed the benefits of wearing sun cream daily all year round – not only does it protect the skin from harmful rays, it can even reverse the signs of ageing.

The important thing is to opt for a broad spectrum SPF, which will protect your skin while avoiding it having to defend itself against UV. You also need to go for a product with a decent factor – SPF 10 isn’t going to do what’s needed here. Try Cover FX’s Invisible Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum; this has an SPF of 30 and glides onto the complexion easily to give a flawless finish.

For an even stronger level of protection, give SkinCeuticals’ Sheer Mineral UV Defense SPF 50 a try. While many SPF 50 products can end up looking thick and white on the skin, this is lightweight and won’t interfere with your usual make-up regime.

If you’re a fan of using a spray sunscreen rather than a cream, Avene’s Spray SPF50 is a good choice. This has been specially formulated for extremely sensitive skin, light and very fair skin and is packed full of Avene Thermal Spring Water, meaning your skin will get a boost of moisture as well as protection from the sun.

You can also get two birds with one stone by opting for a SPF product that is combined with make-up. Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation includes a broad spectrum SPF of 15 and has rave reviews from fans. Just bear in mind that while this is a good call for winter, you will need to up the SPF as soon as the sun starts to make an appearance again – 15 isn’t strong enough for the summer months.
