Protect and perfect: SPF hair products for the summer

Slathering on sunscreen is automatic before you head out into the rays. But did you know that protecting your hair is just as important? However, hair products with SPF have come a long way and now your tresses can look good while being protected from the sun’s harmful properties.

One of the main things the sun can do is strip the hair of keratin – the main building block that keeps hair healthy. But Calypso’s sun-sea hair protection replaces keratin in the hair to make sure the sun doesn’t leave it dry and brittle. It also has UV filters in which prevent the damaging solar radiation getting to the hair and facing colour, as well as Argan Oil to inject some moisture into the hair. It’s also simple to apply – just put on damp or dry hair and comb through. Then you won’t have to worry at all about your locks for the rest of the day.

Another good option is milk_shake’s Sun& More range such as their award-winning Incredible Milk. This is a fantastic multitasker, especially if you’re going on holiday as it’s also available in a mini 100ml size for hand luggage. As well as its UV filters protecting hair from the sun, it also banishes frizz and boosts volume – all in one bottle. Slathering it on and slicking your hair back will give you an on-trend look for the beach – Kim Kardashian eat your heart out!

If you’re looking for a hairspray for the beach to stop any flyaway locks, then give Philip Kingsley’s Weatherproof Hairspray a try. Also available in three different sizes, with the 60ml the perfect travel option, it’s an anti-static, anti-frizz formula that can protect from sun and rain alike – the perfect choice if you’re holidaying in the UK!

Another fantastic product is the Mark Hill Moisturising UV Protection spray, which protects the hair from the harmful UVA and UVB rays as well as having anti-humidity protection as well. It’s incredibly reasonable too, so won’t break the bank.

You can achieve stylish looks with all of these products. If you’re using a spray, then once you’ve sprayed on, scrunch up your hair as it dries to give you a naturally wavy, surf babe look. Slathering on a hair mask post shower after a day on the beach is also a good way to inject some moisture into your locks – try Christophe Robin’s Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil to revitalise your hair from the root right through to the tip.
