Prep your skincare routine for winter
With cooler temperatures comes dry or flaky skin – if you don’t take the right precautions. Beauty expert and founder of cult beauty brand, Studio10, Grace Fodor explains what your skin needs to keep your face in check all winter long.
First of all, Grace advises doing a daily deep clean with a gentle cleanser such as Sarah Chapman Skinesis Ultimate Cleanse to keep the skin clean and clear without stripping away natural oils.
“Massage from the centre of the face outwards with sweeping strokes to encourage blood flow and a natural glow,” Sarah told Cover Media.
With winter’s long days and dark nights, sticking to a nightly regime can prove tricky as the urge to hibernate takes hold. During this time of year, complete your daily skincare routine earlier in the night, preferably as soon as you get home, to make it a lot easier to stick to. And if you find it difficult to stick to a routine, seek out two-in-one products such as Clarins’ Multi-Active Skincare Kit.
Wintertime is when serums really come into play as they offer an additional layer of protection against environmental damage for all skin types. Look for a product rich in collagen and Argan oil which is deeply moisturising and helps promote healthy cell turnover, such as Studio 10 Beauty Miracle Effect Priming Serum. When it comes to getting your skin looking perfectly soft and dewy, look to blur flaws with a palette of age-correcting balm concealers and redness correctors.
The lightest layer of foundation with a radiance finish is all you need through winter – anything else will cling to areas of dryness.
“Don’t forget to lighten up your foundation by at least one tone to compensate for your skin becoming paler through the winter months,” explained Grace.
While highlighters are often associated with summer radiance, they’re also a make-up kit staple during the cooler months too. Highlighters such as Studio 10 Beauty Youth Lift Glow-Plexion or Eve Lom Radiant Glow Cream Compact Foundation SPF 30 add luminosity and radiance to the skin, while giving features an instant lift. Apply to the top of the cheekbones, and anywhere that naturally catches the light.
“Look for products that have a warm-gold undertone and light reflecting pearl; you don’t want anything with glitter,” added Grace. “There are lots of radiance powders about but I prefer cream formulas.”
