Natural sleep solutions

It’s one of the most natural things to do in your bedroom but if you don’t get enough of it, you can end up feeling frustrated and grumpy. No… not THAT! I’m talking about sleep.

Millions of us struggle to get enough zzz’s, with problems ranging from the odd night of interrupted sleep to full blown insomnia. Obviously there are ways of medicating yourself to ensure you get a good night’s sleep, but for those of us who don’t want to rely on prescription drugs to get some shuteye, there are a wide range of natural options too. We run through our favourites.

Many of us snuggle up with a cup of hot liquid before bed, but caffeinated drinks such as tea or coffee are likely to have the opposite effect and keep you awake. Swap your usual tea for a cup of Clipper’s Sleep Easy tea, infused with valerian root, a herb often used to help with sleep disorders, or Yogi’s Bedtime Tea, which includes chamomile, passionflower, liquorice, cardamom and cinnamon alongside valerian – delicious!

If you’re not a fan of hot drinks, then CherryActive could be the perfect remedy for your sleep issues. This is a 100 per cent natural concentrate of Montmorency cherries, which has been proven to help with both sleep quality and quantity.

Pillow mists

It goes without saying that it’s important to have a comfortable pillow to ensure you get a good night’s sleep. But spritzing a calming pillow mist over it before you hit the hay can also help.

There are countless options on the market, many of which contain lavender – a herb proven to aid relaxation by decreasing your heart rate and blood pressure. Try Spritz’s Miaroma Lavender Sleep Mist, which includes honeysuckle and chamomile alongside lavender, or Tropic Skincare’s So Sleepy pillow mist – a gorgeous blend of essential oils like vanilla, rose geranium, frankincense, chamomile, rosewood, rosemary and lavender.

Bath products

Few things are more relaxing in life than soaking in a hot bath. Olverum Bath Oil is a unique and highly concentrated, therapeutic bath oil which contains 10 pure essential oils to naturally relieve stress and help you achieve a great night’s sleep.

Another simple way of making your bath more sleep-friendly is just to add a few drops of pure lavender oil – such as Care Lavender Oil. You can also use this oil to sprinkle on your pillow as a homemade pillow mist. Or make your bath time even more luxurious by lighting a candle, like the Bleeding Hart Candle. This is truly a gorgeous candle, 100 per cent organic and created using essential oils of lavender, rose, cedar wood and geranium alongside lemon balm, which soothes and calms the mind ready for bedtime.
