Natural New Zealand beauty
France is steeped in skincare traditions and South Korea is famous for producing innovative cosmetics. But when it comes to the best organic and natural skincare, New Zealand is emerging as a world leader. The remote nation’s unique flora means beauty companies are able to harvest or grow fresh, sustainable ingredients found nowhere else in the world.
Manufacturing products without synthetic chemicals and in a way that preserves the integrity of the ingredients, Wellington-based Antipodes is one brand making waves in the beauty world. Antipodes’ Global Brand Specialist Deborah Sampson stresses the importance of sourcing the majority of their organic ingredients locally as there is now a strong awareness around healthy lifestyles and the related benefits.
“Premium natural and organic skincare not only allows you to get as close to nature as possible, but brands such as Antipodes are bringing to the market scientific validation also,” she told Cover Media.
Considering these factors and the diverse weather in New Zealand, Antipodes has launched the Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum which targets skin at a cellular level and features raw antioxidant extracts from the New Zealand-grown superfruit complex Vinanza Oxifend Plus (with boysenberry, blackcurrant, kiwifruit) as well as coffee berry and acai. Deborah notes that the diverse weather conditions in the South Pacific nation also impact the way in which formulas and ingredients are used.
“As nature is constantly in flux, you may notice minor changes to products between batches. These are caused by seasonal and other fluctuations in our raw ingredients, so you can take these variations as a positive sign of our commitment to using only pure, non-refined ingredients,” she explained.
Trilogy, another popular Kiwi brand, is also making strides in the beauty industry and has recently re-launched their Age-Proof range, introducing a potent oil blend named Glycablend into their products. For instance, Trilogy’s Age-Proof CoQ10 Booster Oil includes Glycablend as well as antioxidant co-enzyme Q10 and tamanu, macadamia and black caraway seed oils. But it's not just skincare New Zealand does well. Kerikeri’s Living Nature is very proud of their two new vibrant red lipsticks made entirely of certified organic and natural ingredients, and without carmine. Wild Fire, a classic matte red with orange undertone, and Pure Passion, a deep matte red with a subtle crimson undertone, also have organic coconut oil, beeswax and carnauba wax included in the formula.
