How to update your make-up bag this season
It's the season to pick up presents for your nearest and dearest, but what if you fancy a little treat too? To help ease any feelings of guilt we asked a number of top make-up professionals for their suggestions of products to update our make-up bags for Autumn/Winter 15. So there's no need to feel bad if you have a little splurge, as these will last you well into 2016.
"A good red lipstick will instantly update you look for the season," make-up artist Lauren Phelan explained to Cover Media. "Try a matte formula to stay on trend. Deep berry and wine colours are daring but make the best statement.
"A clear brow gel is the perfect way to groom unruly brows. I'm all about a natural brow right now, and just brushing the hairs upwards will lift the face and frame your eye.
"Finally, a liquid highlighter is the easiest way to pull off the strobing trend. Mixed into your foundation or used neat on the high points of the face will give a realistic glow that's universally flattering."
Berry lips were the talk of all our professionals, with Mariam Jensen, Make-up Expert at Airbase Make-up, also suggesting it as the colour of the moment. If you're nervous about going matte or worry about getting dry lips, Mariam thinks balms, tints, glosses or normal lipstick will all work well too.
For the eyes she suggested a simple eyeliner pen, with Beth Margetts of the London Hair and Make-up School backing that idea. Beth is all about felt-tip versions too, which is good news for anyone who suffers from shaky-hand syndrome when trying to apply a smooth line. As these tend to be thicker, they are easier to use; just place a series of dots along your lashes and join them up. Still too scared? Mariam thinks charcoal pencils are another good option, especially as they are easy to smudge, so perfect for this season's smoky eye look.
The final suggestion from Beth is for the cheeks: "a coral/ soft or warm peach cream blush" is apparently key for Autumn/Winter 15 and will last you long into the New Year too.
