Grow to love grey make-up
Grey hair has become a trend even for those who haven’t got it naturally, so what’s the harm in injecting grey into our make-up bags?
There are plenty of ways to make this shade work magic without looking like doom and gloom, and we have just the tips and products on how to do so.
Grey is a great shade to use for those who aren’t keen on the boldness of black. You can keep things soft and subtle with a touch of eyeshadow on your lids, like Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow in Bella Grey or MAC’s Silver Ring Eye Shadow for a sparkly touch. Or try pale eyeliner applied under the lower lash line, like MAC Technakohl liner in Grey Print.
Get a deeper grey with products like Benefit’s Creaseless Cream in Holy Smokes! a smouldering charcoal, which gives a dewy finish and crease-proof eyelid. This is a good starter point before you can drop the tone even more, using a shadow like or a pencil such as Nars’ Velvet Eyeliner – London, resembling the smoggy city. Smudge all you like to give a rock’n’roll finish. And the great thing about grey is you can build it up as much as you want, so you can keep it relaxed or pile it on!
If you’re really not convinced, go for slate greys which have a blue tint or dark slate grey for a touch of green.
There’s a lot you can do with your fingertips as greys are so versatile and there’s tonnes of different finishes you can go for. The neutral tone goes with all outfits and options like Nails Inc. Old Compton Street Nail Polish and Essie Fall Collection Nail Colour 429 Now and Zen, will catch people’s attention just enough without being OTT. Butter London Nail Lacquer in Lady Muck is another popular choice, and for a fabulous long-lasting varnish you have to try OPI Nail Polish in Suzi Takes The Wheel.
This is for the brave and you MUST take into account how this complements your skintone and teeth – the last thing you want is to look like a Goth with discoloured gnawers. Pale complexions could go dark, but it may be worth settling on a lighter shade at first. NYX Cosmetics Macaron Lippies in Black Sesame is a pretty pale tone perfect for beginners. Darker skintones (or brave porcelain beauties) can give Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick in Punked Deep Grey a whirl or Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Nayeon.
