Go smooth and straight like Beyonce
The Met Ball is one of the biggest events in the style calendar, and it seems sleek and straight hair were the order of the day for the A-list as they waltzed the red carpet earlier this month (02May16). The world even momentarily forgot about Beyonce’s “Becky with the good hair” cheating furore, when she rocked her own good hair day with a smooth centre parting. Kendall Jenner also opted for a poker straight style, pulling her hair into a high pony.
Cindy Crawford, Gigi Hadid and Rose Byrne went for sleek, straight styles too, which are easy to recreate at home if you have the right tools.
Experts from Nicky Clarke gave Cover Media the lowdown on how to replicate smooth, straight locks in the comfort of your own house. The team suggests grabbing a pair of the brand’s DesiRED Straightener to get a really neat finish. GHD’s Platinum Serene Pearl Styler will also work a treat.
Firstly, part your hair into sections. Start straightening at the bottom and the back, gradually letting more hair down until you reach the top layer. Finish with one slow stroke from root to tip.
Upon reaching the top layer, tuck hair under slightly at the ends to create shape. Finish with a little smoothing serum and hairspray to set. Our top picks are TRESemme Keratin Smooth Keratin Infusing Serum or a drop or two of Moroccanoil, followed by a spritz of L'Oreal Elnett.
If you’re going for an updo like Kendall and Gigi, use a bristle brush to knock out static on the front and sides of your hair. Slick back with gel to recreate that glossy look.
