Get the look: Sophia Loren

When it comes to classic Hollywood beauty icons, Sophia Loren's name will always get a mention.

Even now, at the age of 81, she's killing it. With her own Dolce & Gabbana lipstick shade revealed this year (15) and the star looking stunning in the accompanying campaign, there's a fresh hype surrounding the Prêt-à-Porter actress.

But splashing out on her lippy isn't the only way you can channel her look. We reveal how you can bring old-school glamour back with beauty.

Sophia is all about the eyes and has always loved a slick of liquid eyeliner. She could pretty much trademark the cat-eye look (sorry Taylor Swift!) and rocks it like no other. You need a steady hand and some practice, so start off with a liquid liner that has a felt-pen-type applicator. It's much easier than a brush. Start thin at the inner corner, then slowly sweep out into a thicker line at the outer edge. Finish off with a connecting flick from the very outer corner of your lower lid, going upwards. It might take a few goes to get it right, but it's worth it!

If you want to further maximise Sophia's Hollywood flutter, add some individual false lashes. You don't want to go thick and clumpy, just add a little length.

If you want to make the look even more dramatic, don't be afraid to add some black eyeshadow. Sophia was rocking the smokey eye before most, using grey and black shadows on the upper lid and blending. Finish off with a very fine line of liquid liner along the lower lid for more effect.

Back in the day, Sophia liked to keep her lips nude or go for a classic red. But these days she seems to be happier to experiment - her Dolce & Gabbana lipstick is a deep, muted cherry. This is a surprisingly easy shade to carry off and works on most skin tones. Treat yourself to the original version or if you're on a tighter budget, look to brands like Rimmel for similar shades - we like the Kate Moss version in number 20.
