Flawless autumn make-up
While certain beauty buys see you through season after season, others are relegated to the back your make-up drawer until the following year. Bright hues and festival face gems are our summer must haves, but as the nights get shorter and the weather turns colder, we prefer a more muted colour palette for fall time.
To help us with our new beauty looks, we spoke to Look Fabulous Forever Founder and beauty Vlogger Tricia Cusden to glean some seasonal hints and tips.
To start with, Tricia says moisturiser is key in the colder months to keep skin looking fresh and hydrated. She also advises using a primer under make-up to keep it in place.
“(Next) use a brush to apply the foundation from the centre of your face outwards, ensuring it is spread evenly across your skin. Don’t use a thick foundation as this will make your skin appear more aged,” she explained to Cover Media.
Apply concealer to cover any blemishes, and make sure it is properly blended. Then grab a highlighter to add some clever definition.
“Using the Fabulous Light concealer and highlighter, gently apply light strokes to your cheekbones and brow bone. This will contour your face and define your eyes,” she advised.
“Fabulous Light is also perfect for covering up any dark circles you may have under your eyes. Next, to add more structure and shape to your face use a bronzer to create shadow and enhance luminosity.”
Now it’s brow time. Groom yours by gently applying an eyebrow pencil or pen over any sparse hairs in “light, feathery strokes” to frame the face.
“Autumn is a good time to create a smokier look with eye make-up. Use eye shadows in muted colours like taupe, cocoa or forest green if you are warm toned. Darker shades should be applied in the socket line and outer edges of the eyes whilst keeping lighter shades to the eyelid. If you are cool toned choose charcoal grey and dark purples and make sure everything is blended well with brushes,” she shared, adding that an eye primer should be applied first and left to dry completely.
When it comes to thicker lashes, Tricia suggests using a fine brush and a dark shadow to draw a thin line next to your eyelash line before applying mascara like bareMinerals Lash Domination.
“To complete your autumnal make-up look, apply a rich lipstick,” Tricia concluded. “Start by applying a lip primer to seal the edges of your lips to prevent any bleeding or feathering of the colour. Now apply your lip colour - think autumn leaves if you are warm toned from orangey reds to caramels. If you are cool toned think plums and berries for the lip colour. Apply one coat, blot it with a tissue and then apply another coat. This will make your lipstick last throughout the day!”
For those brave enough try MAC’s limited Edition Trolls lipstick in Midnight Troll, a deep purple. Alternatively Revlon’s Ultra HD Matt LIPCOLOR is a fab choice. It goes on like a gloss but dries like a lipstick and is available in a number of rich, warm shades.
