Fall beauty essentials

While it doesn’t seem very long since summer began, the time is almost here to put away the pinks and corals and update your make-up bag for a new, fall-appropriate range. But don’t panic about this switch as there are a host of stunning new colours on the market to ensure you look picture perfect as the weather starts to turn.

A great place to start your autumnal look is your eyes as there’s so many pigmented shadows to create an updated version of the smoky eye with browns, plums and purples. Australian brand Nude by Nature’s Natural Wonders Eye Palette is the perfect palette for fall, with a selection of 10 sumptuous shades inspired by Australia’s extraordinary colour palette and a full size mirror for touch-ups on the go – what more could you want?!

If you are looking for a single eyeshadow then give Benecos’ Shimmer Eye Shadow in Amethyst a try – a deep purple with a touch of shimmer that will leave your eyes looking smoky but bright.

Mascaras have also been given an update for autumn, with Dior’s The Diorshow Extase Mascara in Plum the top of our wish list. While purple mascara sounds somewhat terrifying, the subtle shade of this mascara makes a gorgeous and soft addition to a fall look. If your budget won’t stretch to Dior prices, then you can get a similar finish with brown mascara.

Gloss, lipstick or balm? There are so many ways to inject some gorgeous fall colours into your make-up look this year. Look no further than Lord & Berry’s 20100 Lip Crayon in Plum - an absolutely gorgeous colour that sweeps effortlessly onto the pout and lasts well. The shade also works well for both daytime and evening, so is most definitely a make-up bag essential.

For a glossier finish, try Michael Kors’ Glam Lip Luster in Icon, a lip in a deep shade of plum with a translucent finish and shine and a sleek, not sticky, finish.

If you want to go for a very subtle take on this year’s fall colours, then try Tibetan brand Akar Skin’s Mini Care Lip Butter. It’s more of a lip balm than a lipstick and has a stunning autumnal colour which is derived from alkanet root to leave a subtle red hue on your lips.

Grabbing a gorgeous fall shade for your nails gives your look an instant update. British reality star Rosie Fortescue’s Nailed London range is causing a stir in the beauty industry and it’s not hard to see why. Give her Gel Wear polish in Berry Sexy a try, as Rosie explained to Cover Media: “I love a good Bordeaux nail shade in Autumn… matching my nails to the colour changing leaves. Berry Sexy from my collection really delivers.”

While matte finishes are popular, the gel look polish is still a huge hit in the beauty world. Nail brand Bluesky have a deep plum shade called Tinted Love, while Lord & Berry’s Sensationail Gel Polish in Iron Mama is also gorgeous. If you have a few more pennies to spare then why not try Chanel’s Rouge Radical nail polish a go. In the bottle, it doesn’t look very attractive, but the translucent finish gives the traditional deep red nails a modern update and is favoured by stars including Kristen Stewart, who appears in the brand’s Le Rouge campaign.
