Crimping is back! How to get the look
Crimping might have been all the rage in the ‘90s, but it’s also proving very popular as festival season continues this summer. Unlike back in the day, however, there is now a vast array of tools to get the look, and you can also emulate it with just your fingers and some wet hair. We go through our tips on how to achieve this fun style.
The simplest way to get this look is also the easiest, but it can be time consuming. If you’ve got some time one evening, after showering and washing your hair, brush it through then divide into small, thin sections and get plaiting. Secure at the bottom with small hair elastics and sleep on it. In the morning, remove the bands and brush out for a natural, beachy version of the crimped look.
A similar way of doing this is to plait the hair and then use Nicky Clarke’s desiRED straighteners to finish it off. Once you’ve plaited the locks, spritz with hairspray and then clamp the straighteners down the plait in sections until you reach the end. Unravel the plait and run fingers through the hair to loosen the crimps. A neat way to display the finished look is to wear hair in a low ponytail – a look that was seen on the catwalks this year.
