Chic hairdos that work for gym and the office
Gym bunnies are always looking for ways to shave time off the transition from sweaty to sleek. One easy way is to create a hairstyle that will survive rounds of burpees and won’t need a lot of attention after, and can then take you to the office or off to meet friends. While a ponytail is easy, aesthetically it’s not the most interesting look.
Braids or a bun are perfect places to start with a finished post-gym look. As well as helping you look good, a workout can actually enhance your hair’s look, as post-exercise salt and moisture from your sweat helps to create a natural wavy texture.
Here are our top hairstyles for heading straight to the office from the gym.
Braiding is the go-to look for most gym bunnies. It works on all hair textures and lengths, holds all the layers in and importantly gets hair out of your face. Plus the neat and fashionable look, as seen on celebrities such as Ciara and Hailey Baldwin, will take you effortlessly through the rest of your day. Use a comb with a pointed tip to part hair down the middle and divide it into two sections. Spritz hair with a dry shampoo like Klorane’s Oatmilk Dry Shampoo Spray or a texture spray, then create a braid in each parted section, ending above the nape of your neck. Secure each braid with a hair tie and voila!
The Twisted Rope Braid
This two-strand twist looks incredible and as a bonus produces two hairstyles in one, as when you unwrap it after your workout, you’ll end up with beachy waves.
Split hair in half from either centre or side part to the centre of the neck. Secure both sides in pigtails. On each side, start a two-strand twist braid at your hairline and work down to the ends. Tie off both ends with a small elastic band. If you have fine or thin hair, you may need to add in a texturiser spray like Toni & Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray to help the bottoms stay twisted. After your workout, use a blow dryer on a cool setting to work the moisture out. Once dried, undo the style, apply a dry shampoo like Swell Ultimate Volume to the root. The result is a pretty, natural wave.
The Half-Bun Mohawk
This stylish take on the half-bun looks impressive for the gym and won’t need fussing with afterwards. All you do is create three half-buns going down the middle of your head. Spritz hair with a texture spray like Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray, but if you’re working with three-day-old hair use dry shampoo, then section off hair from the corners of your forehead, creating a half-bun by wrapping a hair tie halfway over the hair, twice. Pick up the second section of your hair at your ears - including the tail of the first bun - and create a second bun. Repeat the method for the bottom section with the remainder of your hair. You can pull the buns closer together with hair pins.
