Channel your inner princess with magical hair

Little girls dream of being a Disney princess and let's be honest, so do many women. But sadly it isn't acceptable to strut around in a ball gown as an adult, so why not channel your inner princess through your hair instead?

Many know it as the half-up-half-down 'do, but we think it has a touch of fairytale to it that should be taken advantage of. This style works best with wavy hair or loose curls - straight hair won't hold and tight ringlets are too difficult to tame.

To begin with, you need a fine-toothed comb to separate the hair at the crown, which will leave you with a small section of locks. To give it more oomph, backcomb it towards your scalp slightly until enough volume is created for you to smooth it but still stand out.

Secure this area with a hair slide or bobby pin horizontally where your crown is - it doesn't look like much, but you'll be adding to it!

Next, reach for the section of hair that covers your ear and gently twist it back. Get a good twist on the strands so they look like a spiral, then bring it towards the back of your head, where your hair is already pinned up. Using another slide or pin a similar shade to your tresses, secure the twist of hair so it covers all fastening.

Do the same with the other side of your head, checking a mirror to make sure things are balanced out at the back - then you're done! You should notice the hair held up under the twists falls shorter than the rest of your locks, creating a cute and princess-like finish. Now all you need is a tiara - or a bejewelled hairband will do!
