Beauty saviour: The amazing avocado

As well as being packed full of vitamins, avocados make the perfect meal time addition, as they've been proven to lower cholesterol and are beneficial for eye health. Eating it will benefit your skin, but so will using it in products or directly on your face. Alongside ingesting them, avocados are also an excellent beauty ingredient. Even Miley Cyrus is a big fan of a DIY avocado face mask, posting a snap to her Instagram earlier this month with green goo all over the face.

"Avocado obseshhhhh is mad real! (sic)," she told fans.

Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian are also fans of the homemade skin saviour, which can do everything from moisturise to work as an anti-ager. It can also be effective on spots and give a deep-down cleanse, with none of the added chemicals shop-bought masks include. Check out some recipes below for an easy DIY skin fix.

For acne:

2 tbsp mashed avocado

1 tbsp honey

1/2 tbsp cinnamon powder

Mix together until it forms a smooth paste. Spread over face and neck, leaving on for ten minutes before rinsing. This will help the blemishes, plus nourish and soften the skin.

Oily skin:

1/2 avocado

1 egg white

1 tsp fresh lemon juice

Mash the ingredients together until consistency is smooth, then apply liberally over face and neck. Leave on for ten minutes and then wash off. This mask will help regulate oiliness, hydrate the skin and reduce any swelling and inflammation you may have.

Dry skin:

1 tbsp mashed avocado

1 tbsp mashed banana

1 tsp olive oil

1 tsp fresh orange juice

Blend in ingredients, then apply. Fifteen minutes should do it with this one. Use the mask to smooth and moisturise skin.

Countless brands are also turning to the hero fruit to give products a boost. Liz Earle has combined avocado oil with ingredients like wheatgerm oil, Vitamin E and beta-carotene in its Skin Repair Moisturiser. The line covers three skin types; dry/sensitive, normal/combination and combination/ oily, which means this is the ideal cream for pretty much everyone.

If you're after a new eye cream, give Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado a try. The moisturising properties of avocado are utilised here, giving your delicate eye area a gentle treatment. It's luxuriously thick and a little goes a long way, adding instant moisture to dry eyes.

Crabtree & Evelyn is famous for its use of nature's best ingredients, and so obviously avocado features in its vast offerings. Grab a tube of Avocado, Olive & Basil Hand Therapy to give your talons a treat. Hands can often be forgotten about, but Crabtree & Evelyn knows just how important it is to care for them. This cream will leave them conditioned and moisturised. Notes of lemon work well with the avocado smells, for a refreshing and uplifting experience.
