Beauty boxes – are they for you?

Beauty boxes – are they for you?

If you’re somebody who goes into the local pharmacy with the intention of buying some toothpaste and emerges with carrier bags of make-up, beauty box deliveries could be for you.

Birchbox was one of the U.K.’s first beauty box companies, and remains the favourite in the country with one million subscribers worldwide. Once you fill in a beauty profile detailing what kind of skin and hair you have, as well as the colours and styles you like when it comes to your make-up, the bosses at Birchbox will pick five products to include in your customised box. Among the options in September’s box are NUXE Prodigieux Shower Oil, Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Blemish-Less and Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray.

The names are well known but mainly found on the high street. If you are more of a high-end beauty fan, then give Cohorted a try. The monthly cost is significantly more, but each box has a higher minimum value and you can expect to see names including Michael Kors, Mac and Nars in your box. In addition to that, several subscribers will receive a full-size “super luxury” product every month - what’s not to love?

If you’re a fan of organic beauty, then LoveLula’s box is the perfect choice for you. Each subscriber receives the same box of all-natural products – the packing of which is fully recyclable. The products all contain no parabens and no animal testing, and can be bought as full sizes from the LoveLula store if you hit it off with one particular product.

Another benefit of beauty boxes is that you can customise them in terms of what area you want to focus on. If you are a beauty all-rounder fan, then Birchbox and Cohorted are both good options. But if your talons are the most important part of your look, then the aptly-named Nail Box could be your perfect option. This is the first service of its kind in the U.K. and will deliver a selection of five mystery items – one or two accessories and three or four nail polishes – with names offered including Seche Vite, Essie and Nails Inc.

As with any subscription, the most important thing to look out for if you’re considering signing up for a beauty box monthly delivery is what kind of contract you are agreeing to. Make sure you have read the small print so there aren’t any surprises and then sit back and wait for your exciting first delivery.
