Conor McGregor says Eddie Alvarez's wife and kids won't recognise him after UFC 205
The Dubliner, who will fight Alvarez at UFC 205 for the lightweight title, has further ramped up the trash talk between the fighters ahead of the New York bout.
The Notorious will get a shot at history when he takes on lightweight champion Alvarez in New York at UFC 205, which should start at around 2am Irish time on November 13.
A win over Alvarez will make McGregor the first man to hold two UFC belts at the same time, making the November 12 Madison Square Garden clash a mouth-watering prospect.
The Crumlin fighter has ramped up the war of words between himself and the American ahead of UFC 205 this evening by stating that his opponent's family will not recognise him after the title bout:
Conor: I'm going to toy w/ this man. I'm going to really, truly rearrange his facial structure. His wife and kids won't recognize him again.— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) November 3, 2016
The Irish MMA star was in fine form during the UFC 205 conference call as he confidently predicted he will make UFC history in just one round:
McGregor on winning two belts: It's never even been close to a reality in the UFC. This will be one of my shining moments.— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) November 3, 2016
McGregor: I know he's durable, but I don't believe he's been hit like anybody by me. I still can't see him lasting longer than a round.— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) November 3, 2016
McGregor on his standing after UFC 205: "Numero uno. I am the all-time great."— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) November 3, 2016
McGregor also poured cold water on the rumours circulating that he would take an extended break from MMA following the title fight:
Conor McGregor says you'd be crazy to listen to the rumors about him taking time off next year.— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) November 3, 2016
After announcing the fight, Dana White confirmed that McGregor would keep his featherweight belt which he won against Jose Aldo in December 2015.
Back in March, McGregor was due to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 but the then-champion pulled out through injury.
Alvarez then beat Dos Anjos in July to take the title.
Khabib Nurmagomedov had signed a deal to fight the champion at UFC 205 or 206 but it looks like the prospect of McGregor was too tempting for Alvarez.
Also on the card is welterweight champ Tyron Woodley taking on Stephen Thompson.
