Conor McGregor set for ENORMOUS payday
It is being estimated that Conor McGregor could earn $8m (€7.1m) for fighting Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 in March.
McGregor's attempt to add the lightweight belt to his featherweight one has yet to be officially confirmed but it seems certain that the Dubliner will take on the Brazilian in Las Vegas in a show co-headlined by Holly Holm v Miesha Tate.
And Fox Sports are estimating that the bumper card is set to produce a bumper payday for the Dubliner.
Final figures for UFC 194 (where McGregor sensationally beat Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds) have yet to be released but it is estimated that McGregor made between $5.5m and $7.5m for his night's work, the vast majority of which came from the Irish fighter's cut of the pay-per-view sales.
Fox say that McGregor's bid to hold two titles at the same time, a feat no fighter has ever pulled off in the UFC, plus the addition of Holm's first fight since beating Ronda Rousey, could push the pay-per-view sales close to the UFC record of 1.6million buys, which was for UFC 100.
If McGregor is on roughly $5 per pay-per-view buy, 1.5 million buys would net McGregor $7.5m and he is already on $500,000 per fight.
That adds up to $8m and if the hype machine gets going - and nobody is better at that game than McGregor - then his take home pay could be even higher.
