Conor McGregor is odds on to win RTE's Sports Person of the Year award in the latest odds published by Paddy Power.

In the wake of his sensational win over Jose Aldo at the weekend the MMA star is now 1/3 to win the award, miles ahead of the 13 other nominees.

Combat sports dominate the list, with Michael Conlan, crowned the amateur boxing world champion this year, second in the odds at 7/2.

Another boxing world champ, this time in the pro ranks, Andy Lee, is available at 50s.

Third in the betting, at 8/1, is Paul O'Connel while golfer Shane Lowry, after a great year, is joint fourth at 16/1 alongside our best player in the Euro qualifiers, Jon Walters.

The award show is on this Saturday night, with the ceremony broadcast live on RTE 1 at 9.40pm
