Tiger Woods has announced that he will play at The Masters next week, after opting to make his return in the first Major of the year.

The 14-time major winner had been a doubt after he withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open on February 6 saying he will not return until he can ''compete at the highest level''.

"I've worked a lot on my game and I'm looking forward to competing. I'm excited to get to Augusta and I appreciate everyone's support."

Woods has been at the Augusta National course in recent days testing out his game to see if he is fit and capable of playing in an event he has won on four previous occasions.

He failed to compete at last year's competition because of a back injury and has struggled to perform anywhere near his best in recent months, but the fallen champion who last won The Masters in 2005 believes he is ready to compete once again.
