A woman who launched an online appeal to find an Irish fan she met at Euro 2016 has not found him yet but remains hopeful.

The woman, who calls herself Rita, issued an appeal for help last week.

Posting via the You Boys in Green forum, she said that she has no information other than his first name Cormac and where they met.

"I'm trying to contact him about an important matter," she wrote.

Rita has now revealed that her search had so far proved unsuccessful.

"I can tell you that I have not found 'the' Cormac I need to speak to, yet," she told Independent.ie.

Rita also told the YBIG forum that she is not French, as previously believed, although she lives in France.

She does not want to say what country she is from, as it could be something that only the person she is looking for knows.

She did tell the forum that her team played on that night in the Euros (June 26).

The matches that day were France v Ireland; Hungary v Belgium; Germany v Slovakia.

In her earlier post, Rita explained that she met the Irish man at La Place du Change, Lyon - where Ireland played their Round of 16 game against France.

She describes the area as a "square in the Old Town where Irish fans gathered together on Saturday and Sunday evening during the Euros".

The pair met at around 1am on June 27, the night after the game.

She explained: "We met while the crowd was singing 'Don't take me home', which they continued to sing for at least 10 minutes. He had lost his friends.

"If this message reaches Cormac, he needn't worry, I just need to touch base with him about something."

She has asked anyone with information to contact [email protected]
