Arsenal's hunt for a striker continues and a name familiar to Premier League fans could be in the frame.

With Arsene Wenger himself declaring their bid for Jamie Vardy all but dead over the weekend, Arsenal will have to look elsewhere for a striker.

And reports in Italy say that a former Premier League striker could be headed to London to do the job.

Football Italia are saying that the Gunners are in a battle with Spartak Moscow for the services of former Manchester City front man Stefan Jovetic.

Jovetic is still on the books at the Etihad, but he spent last season on loan at Inter Milan.

The Italian giant's loan deal requires them to buy the Montenegrin for almost €15m so they are hoping to offload him for that amount to clear their debt with City.

Jovetic only scored six goals in Serie A last term but at 26 his best years should be still to come.

The striker is reported to prefer a return to the Premier League rather than a switch to the Russian league, putting Arsenal in pole position for his services.
