He may not be enjoying an especially impressive first season at Manchester United, but Angel Di Maria is top of the charts when it comes to shirt sales.

Sports Direct have released their latest sales data on Premier League shirt sales for this soccer season and Di Maria's red No.7 shirt has proved to be the most popular.

Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez has stormed into second spot in the ratings after his sparkling first season in English football, with Chelsea's Diego Costa in third place.

Di Maria's popularity among United fans - at least when he first arrived in a £59.7m deal from Real Madrid - is backed up by figures that prove the Argentine's jersey accounts for almost 10% of the Sports Direct shirt sales for the last year.

The figures confirm that even if Di Maria's first season at United is being hailed as a flop, he has been good commercial business for United in merchandise sales at least.

Meanwhile, fresh reports have emerged suggesting Di Maria will be leaving United next summer, with Paris Saint-Germain believed to be keen to sign him.

For the thousands of United fans who have bought a red No.7 shirt with Di Maria's name on the back, that news will not be welcome!
