Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has accused the media of indulging in a love story with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, as he refused to get drawn into a debate on his chief rival ahead of the new season.

Wenger will attempt to beat Mourinho for the first time in his 14th encounter with the Chelsea boss in Sunday's Community Shield match at Wembley, with the Arsenal manager refusing to be drawn into a war of words with his long-standing nemesis.

"I'll leave your love story with him to continue without interfering," joked Wenger, light-heartedly suggesting the media favour Mourinho. "I wouldn't like to interfere in that."

Mourinho was typically feisty when he was asked about his unbeaten record against Mourinho, as he taunted his rival with these comments.

"I think I would ask myself why," he said, referring to his 13-game undefeated run against Wenger.

"I would to try to answer but not because of a mental block but because I would want to try to find solutions to help my team to do it.

"Try to find a different way, try to find the reasons why it goes all the time against my team. But just that.

"Still, I don't think about what happened before, I just think about the game.

"For me, six, seven, eight or nine matches without losing makes (no) difference and I don't think affects this game. For me there is no relation between one game and what happened before."

Wenger and Mourinho look set to go head-to-head through this season, with Arsenal and Chelsea tipped to be rivals to lift the Premier League title over the course of the next ten months.
