Wayne Rooney under twitter fire after Villa Park no-show
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has insisted he does not need to sign another striker in this summer's transfer window - but he may change his mind after skipper Wayne Rooney's display at Villa Park on Friday night.
United may have ground out a 1-0 win thanks to an Adnan Januzaj goal, but it was Rooney who was the focus of plenty of twitter abuse after his faltering display leading the line for Van Gaal's side.
Twitter is a pretty unforgiving place for soccer stars when they have a bad day at the office and Rooney may want to avoid the social media site for the next few days after this barrage of criticism.
People are finally sitting up and smelling the roses. Rooney is playing brutal and this is just a repeat of the last 6 months at least— Diarmuid Gillingham (@Diarmuid_mufc) August 14, 2015
Rooney hasn't scored an away goal since November '14 and his first touch is borderline offensive. Yet Van Gaal seems to give him a free pass— Alex Shaw (@AlexShawESPN) August 14, 2015
Rooney has been borderline pathetic. Has no idea how to play as a main striker. Plays like he is wearing clogs.— James (@writtenoff_mufc) August 14, 2015
Two wins secured via an opponent's touch. Defence secure & Shaw brilliant. Rooney would be dropped if Van Gaal had a proven striker. #mufc— Samuel Luckhurst (@samuelluckhurst) August 14, 2015
At least I don't have Wayne Rooney as fantasy captain...— Simon Peach (@SimonPeach) August 14, 2015
