Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen trade blows on Twitter
Man Utd captain Wayne Rooney has had a dig at his old team-mate Michael Owen, after the former striker tweeted a message of support for Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
Former United and Liverpool striker Owen is working with the Anfield club these days and is clearly keen to confirm that his brief flirtation with their deadly rivals at Old Trafford is long forgotten.
This was his tweet prior to their 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening:
Come on Red Men. A win by two goals and it's 'top of the league'. pic.twitter.com/hDAn2rwPkO— michael owen (@themichaelowen) October 22, 2016
That inspired Rooney to respond with this cheeky message:
Interesting this Michael I thought you was a united fan??? https://t.co/NjOZ0N1fCr— Wayne Rooney (@WayneRooney) October 22, 2016
The banter continued between the duo as Owen offer up this repost:
Naughty @WayneRooney! Always want my old teams to win but Liverpool are my first love. What about you? Once a Blue always a Blue? :-)— michael owen (@themichaelowen) October 22, 2016
That was backed up by this reply from Rooney:
Ok sorry mate I actually thought you was an Everton fan as a kid but I was obviously wrong if Liverpool was your 1st love 👍😂👍 https://t.co/WGaOyOnxYm— Wayne Rooney (@WayneRooney) October 22, 2016
It is clear that the former team-mates were merely having some jovial fun on social media, with Rooney having a little more time on his hands to dabble on his Twitter account after it was revealed he is out of United's trip to Chelsea on Sunday due to injury.
