Liverpool great Steven Gerrard offered a gushing tribute to Manchester United legend David Beckham as he was unveiled as an LA Galaxy player.

Gerrard hailed Beckham as one of his sporting heroes in front of a packed press conference in California, as he insisted he was not arriving at LA Galaxy for an easy ride at the end of his career.

He also offered these words of praise for his former Liverpool team-mate and new LA Galaxy colleague Robbie Keane, with the Irishman helping Gerrard settle in America as he prepares to make his make his MLS debut this weekend.

"It was very nice to have Robbie around, he introduced me to the players and he also lent me some factor 50 as well so I didn't burn," Gerrard said with a smile at a news conference.

"It felt like I was coming to a new school but thanks to my team-mates for making me feel welcome."
