Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers made an impressive debut as an analyst on Sky Sports' Monday night football - and he had a few words of advice for Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal.

Appearing alongside his former defender Jamie Carragher in the Sky studios, Rodgers offered up a display of his tactical acumen as he reviewed the weekend games, including Liverpool's 1-0 home defeat against United and Anfield on Sunday.

While Rodgers suggested United boss Van Gaal deserved to be respected despite many of the club's fans turning against him this season, he suggested victories would not be enough to silence his doubters.

Rodgers offered his views on a wide range of topics as he saw his former side Swansea defeat another of his ex-employers Watford 1-0, with his opinions on Luis Suarez confirming he still has huge admiration for his former striker.

Suarez missed out on a place in the top three of last week's Ballon d'Or ceremony to crown the best player in the world, with Rodgers suggesting that vote may have been politically motivated.
