Ferdinand: Man Utd could be champions this season

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes his former club are in with a chance of winning this season's Premier League title.

BT Sport pundit Ferdinand suggests the title race is more open than ever this season, with United firmly in the mix after they moved ahead of Arsenal and Manchester City following their win at Watford last weekend.

"Results-wise I think they’ve been impressive, I think for the majority of the games, they’ve been controlling, but again we saw against Watford it wasn’t an easy game, and they didn’t make it easy," stated Ferdinand.

"They controlled the tempo first half very well, second half, Watford created chances and if David de Gea isn’t in the form he’s in, they might not have come away with any points, let alone getting the three.

"There’s still a lot to improve in Manchester United, but the great thing about the league at the moment is that I feel the quality in this league isn’t as great as it’s been over the years, so they could run out champions."

Ferdinand also addressed the issue of the expectations of United's fans and criticism of the style being promoted by boss Louis van Gaal in this BT Sport interview:
