Rafael Benitez has hinted that player power is a dominant factor at Real Madrid, as he offered a fascinating insight into life as the club's head coach.

Benitez was sacked by Real Madrid last month amid suggestions that senior players were not happy with his methods and coaching sessions.

Now the former Liverpool boss has broken his silence following his exit from the Spanish giants, as he told BT Sport that he was 'frustrated' to see his dream of managing Real Madrid cut so short.

In comments that can only be viewed as a snipe at Real Madrid President Florentino Perez, Benitez suggested the constant changes of management at Real Madrid is the primary reason why Barcelona are the top club in Spanish football.

"You need to know what happened at Real Madrid in the last years," he stated.

"As soon as the chairman thinks there is problems, the manager goes. The fans were a little nervous, the chairman was a little nervous and then they change the manager.

"You have a permanent presence of the chairman. He talks to the players, he talks to the press.

"He did a great job in terms of business. In football, Barcelona is winning and winning and he keeps changing."

Meanwhile, Benitez hinted he would be keen to make a return to the Premier League, if the right opportunity was presented to him.
