The midfielder has put his country 1-0 up in their World Cup qualifier away to the Netherlands.

Pogba responded to his critics in typical style this evening to give France a one-nil lead.

Having been given a rating of 4/10 by prominent French publication L'Equipe after Didier Deschamps' men beat Bulgaria 4-1 in Paris on Friday, the United man was under the microscope even more than usual coming into tonight's crunch clash.

Comments from his international manager may also have pumped Pogba up:

"Paul can and must do better. He knows that," Deschamps said following Friday's victory.

"But he did not play in a position that highlights him. In this position, his role is more about the construction of the game. He has everything to do it.

"He did good things tonight. And some others that were less good."

Despite acknowledging that operating as part of a midfield two for France does not play to Pogba's strengths, Deschamps again picked the world's most expensive player in the same position this evening.

Pogba responded with this strike, which Everton keeper Maarten Stekelenburg really should have kept out:

France take the one-goal lead into the break against the Dutch.
