Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has claimed Arsenal will not win the Premier League this season and has accused Gunners boss Arsene Wenger of being 'anaive or arrogant' in his transfer dealings.

The lack of leadership in the heart of the Arsenal midfield has been an issue that has troubled Wenger's teams since Patrick Vieira left the club a decade ago and Neville believes it continues to hold them back.

Former Manchester United captain Neville was a studio pundit as Arsenal relied on a man-of-the-match display from keeper Petr Cech to secure a 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Emirates Stadium and he seemed angry as he reflected on Wenger's transfer policy.

Wenger responded to Neville's criticism as he stated: "Everybody has his opinion. I could prove to you that it's not necessarily right."

The Arsenal boss also admitted after the game that his side's start to the season has been 'average', which will come as a huge disappointment as he spent most of this summer emphasising the need for his team to start quickly if they are to launch a serious push for the Premier League title.

"We have started very average I must concede," Wenger said after the game.

"We have four points from two homes games and won the most difficult game away from home.

"I think sharpness is missing a little bit in some players. I would like to give credit to Liverpool, they defended well and were quick to close us down.

Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers suggested his side were 'outstanding', as he tends to do in virtually every post match press briefing.
