Van Gaal unclear on Di Maria's future

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been offered the chance to banish the notion that Angel di Maria is set to join Paris Saint-Germain - but his response added fuel to the blaze of speculation.

Di Maria is expected to join United's pre-season tour of America next week after he was given an extended summer break following his participation in the Copa America, but it seems increasingly possible that he has already played his last competitive game for the club.

United record signing Di Maria has insisted he is happy to stay at the club for a second season even though he failed to live up to his lofty billing following his £59.7m move from Real Madrid last summer, but these words from Van Gaal did little to banish the notion that his future at the club is uncertain.

"We shall see," he said when asked whether Di Maria would stay. "In football, it is a process. It's a process for Di Maria and Man Utd. We shall see.

"He is still a member of United and he said he will come out on July 25."

Meanwhile, Van Gaal has revealed that he informed Robin van Persie of the decision to move him on from the club at a United golf day back in May, as he reflected on his move to Turkish side Fenerbahce.

"I had the conversation at the end of the season, so he knew already what was coming," confirmed Van Gaal.

"I told him in a conversation with him and we have to keep it like that. He knew that from the day we played golf, we spoke about the prospects of him at United."

"Every decision is difficult to sign and let them go, but I think he made a good decision. Fenerbahce is a warm club."
