Van Gaal resignation conversation 'never took place'

Manchester United are heavily involved in today's transfer talk roundup, as reports emerge that Louis van Gaal did not offer his Old Trafford resignation.

Following reports that Louis van Gaal offered to quit as Old Trafford boss, BBC Sport says that the alleged resignation conversation between Van Gaal and Chief Executive Ed Woodward never took place.

The Daily Mail, meanwhile, says that Woodward hopes to appoint Pep Guardiola as United’s next manager after canvassing senior players about their preferred choice of replacement.

James Rodriguez, who was yesterday linked with Manchester United, has put the Red Devils on red alert according to the Sun. The attacking midfielder has allegedly hit out at critics who have labelled the Colombian overweight and criticised him for a series of poor performances.

The club have stepped up their pursuit of Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin, say the Daily Star, with the shotstopper also being linked with a switch to Liverpool.

The Daily Express, however, reports that Barcelona keeper Claudio Bravo is being lined up for a move to the red side of Manchester.

United scouts watched Porto beat Maritimo on Sunday, according to the Mail, as they cast an eye over potential targets in the form of Holland defender Bruno Martins Indi and 18-year-old Portugal midfielder Ruben Neves, the latter appearing as a second-half substitute.

The same paper says that the club’s scouts have also been sent to watch Marseille winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, who has previously been linked with Liverpool and West Ham United.

The Mail also reports Liverpool have been told to increase their £28million offer for Brazilian forward Alex Teixeira.

Newcastle are closing in on the signing of Andros Townsend after agreeing a fee with Tottenham, reports the Daily Express. Townsend wants to quit Spurs after struggling to get a game under Mauricio Pochettino and still hopes to play for England this summer.

However, the Sun claim that the England winger could be headed to St. Mary’s as Spurs look to use Townsend as a makeweight in a deal of Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama.

The Daily Mirror say that Chelsea are ready to let striker Loic Remy move to Crystal Palace as long as they get Corinthians' Alexandre Pato.
