Van Gaal hits out at the tackle that broke Shaw's leg
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has hit out at the tackle from PSV Eindhoven Hector Moreno that left Luke Shaw with a double fracture to his right leg.
United's 2-1 defeat in Eindhoven was overshadowed by the horrific injury suffered by Shaw, with Van Gaal clearly furious that there was no punishment handed out for a challenge that may have ended his left back's season.
Van Gaal was clearly stunned as he spoke to BT Sport:
His comments to the media were even more forthright, as he suggested punishment should have been handed down to Moreno.
"It is awful. The boy is in his second season and he has been playing fantastic. And now this happens," said Van Gaal.
"He had the oxygen mask on and was crying in the dressing room. You must judge for yourself. It was a very bad tackle."
Van Gaal was equally frustrated by his team's failure to win in Eindhoven, as he suggested their lack of cutting edge is a major concern.
"It is the same game as against Swansea," he added, reflecting on the Premier League game they lost 2-1 last month. "We dominate the game, create chances but we are not finishing."
There was agony of a different variety of Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, as his side fluffed their lines in the Champions League again as they threw away an early advantage to lost 2-1 at home to Italian champions Juventus.
This is how the Chilean summed up his side's latest European nightmare on BT Sport:
