Top European midfielders linked with Manchester United moves

Manchester United are linked with three European midfield stars in today's transfer gossip, of which one potential deal could spell trouble for Louis van Gaal's Old Trafford reign.

The Daily Mirror reports that the Manchester club are once again attempting to sign German international midfielder Toni Kroos, which could spell trouble for manager Louis van Gaal who reportedly killed off a deal for the Real Madrid man when he took over the Old Trafford hotseat.

This comes in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes being spotted in Manchester on Tuesday.

The Express says that United's pursuit of Atletico Madrid's £47m-rated Saul Niguez, who scored a wondergoal as Diego Simeone's side beat Bayern Munich 1-0 last night, has been derailed due to the fact that Barcelona have first option to buy the 21-year-old.

Local Spanish press also report that highly-rated Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes could be in line for a move to Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old is also wanted by Juventus and Chelsea. The Portugal international's agent is none other than Jorge Mendes, aforementioned agent of Portuguese man Mourinho.

The Sun writes that Arsenal are lining up a summer move for highly rated Leicester midfielder N'Golo Kante and along with Borussia Monchengladbach's Granit Xhaka.

Kante is also wanted by fellow Premier League outfit Manchester City, as the Daily Mirror report that Leicester are prepared to let the tough-tackling midfielder leave the King Power stadium if they secure a replacement transfer.

Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic could also be on his way to the Emirates, according to the Daily Star.

The race to sign Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is down to Manchester United and Liverpool after West Ham withdrew their interest, according to the Express.

A former Arsenal folk hero could be set for a move to Anfield as Spanish media outlet Sport says that Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen is wanted by Liverpool.

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has emerged as a potential candidate to become Everton's new manager should they sack Roberto Martinez this summer, reports the Mirror.

Tonny Vilhena could be heading to the Premier League as the Mail claims that the Feyenoord youngster is wanted by Leicester.

Tottenham are lining up summer moves for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi and Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, according to the Mirror.
