Shamrock Rovers put pressure on Dundalk at the top of the Airtricity League standings as they beat Galway United 3-0 in Tallaght on Friday night.

Goals from forward Mikey Drennan in either half, and a late strike from Brandon Miele sealed the win for Rovers, who are now just one point behind Dunfalk ahead of their game with Limerick on Saturday.

A David Cassidy hat-trick moved Bray Wanderers moved off the bottom of the table after a 3-1 win against Sligo Rovers, with Sligo boss Owen Heary fuming with his players after their limp performance at the Showgrounds.

Cork City secured a comfortable 3-0 win against Derry City as John O’Flynn and Karl Sheppard (2) got themselves on the scoresheet at Turner's Cross, in front of a crowd of 5,104.

Meanwhile, Marc Griffin fired an 88th minute winner for 10-man Bohemians as they claimed a controversial win against Drogheda, as Derek Prendergast was sent off for a foul that appeared to be committed by his team-mate Lorcan Fitzgerald.
