All the UK papers are going big on one story today, Lionel Messi to Manchester City.

It's a great idea, and the basis of it is very simple; if the world's best player ever leaves Barcelona it would be to work with Pep Guardiola again and the Spaniard is, of course, taking the helm at the Etihad this summer.

Add in the role of former Barca top men Txiki Begiristain, City’s sporting director, and Ferran Soriano, the chief exec, and City would be best placed to lure Messi away from the Catalan giants.

However, all of today's stories come with the health warning that 28-year-old has no plans to leave Barcelona and is currently contracted until 2018.

By the time that deal is up he would be almost 30 and who knows if the Guardiola regime at Manchester City would even be still in place come then.

For now, it is best to file this under wait and see.

As for the rest of the gossip, Manchester United are reported to have held secret talks over the transfer of Borussia Dortmund hot-shot PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG, says the Daily Mirror.

Real Madrid will exercise their 30million euro buy-back clause on Juventus striker ALVARO MORATA this summer... before selling the Spain striker on to Arsenal for 50m euros, Spanish outlet AS reports.

The Gunners are tracking the Lorient left-back RAPHAEL GUERREIRO before a possible summer bid, as Arsene Wenger considers whether to listen to offers for KIERAN GIBBS, the Guardian reports.

And finally former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole will leave Coventry for MLS side the Tampa Bay Rowdies this summer, according to ESPN.
