There is even more football coming to our TV screens as Sky Sports announce that they will be broadcasting Saturday 3pm kickoffs in Ireland for the first time.

Setanta have been broadcasting the pick of the Saturday 3pm kickoffs for a number of seasons now but Sky have won the rights from next year.

The broadcaster also confirmed on Twitter that they will be showing Friday night Premier League games in Ireland from next season, with up to 10 planned.

The deal is understood to be for three seasons.

Saturday kickoffs at 3pm are not allowed to be broadcast in the UK for fear they would take away from attendences at lower league games.

Barney Francis – managing director of Sky Sports – is quoted as saying: “These rights mean that Sky Sports remains the home of sport in Ireland. From the 2016-17 season, our viewers in Ireland will be able to enjoy even more of the best Premier League matches across more days of the week than ever before.

"By securing rights to live matches on Friday evenings for the first time, Sky Sports will bring Premier League fans an entirely new way to start the weekend.”
