Manchester United legend Paul Scholes had a glint in his eye as he was asked to comment on the long-running debate over whether he was better player that Liverpool great Steven Gerrard.

Following confirmation of Gerrard's retirement as a player, the eternal debate of the best English midfielder to grace the Premier League resurfaced.

Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard or Steven Gerrard? People will argue the points until the cows come home.

All three are contemporaries and featured together for England, while you would need to exclude Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool fans from a vote to get a fair answer.

While acting as a pundit for BT Sport this evening, Scholes was quizzed on his opinion about who was the better player between himself and Gerrard.

His response to "Scholes or Gerrard?" will not have gone down well with Reds fans:

"No question, is it?"
